No Evidence of ‘Coffee Break’ on Mars

from nytimes.com: Scientists did not find a Dunkin’ Donuts on Mars, but they did figure out where a rock that looks like a small jelly doughnut came from. Last month, the rock, about an inch and a half wide, showed up in one of the photographs taken by the NASA’s Opportunity rover. In addition to the unusual appearance, it had not been there when Opportunity photographed the same spot on the Martian landscape less than two weeks earlier. A new photograph shows an overturned rock with a similar dark red center and white surface about a yard away. The jelly doughnut piece, named Pinnacle Island, broke off and rolled downhill when the rover drove over it in early January, scientists working on the mission said Friday.
