local students to participate in mock disaster
from the intelligencer: Instead of creating the usual widespread devastation, organizers of this year’s mock disaster plan to confine their catastrophe to a local high school...

the event will be one that replicates the inoculation of more than 1,000 people as if there were an outbreak of pandemic influenza. The mock inoculation event will take place at John Marshall High School on Wednesday, Sept. 27... the students at the school will be the patients in the scenario, although they will not be given any actual shots...

The exercise will also feature mock patients arriving at both Reynolds Memorial Hospital and Wetzel Community Hospital in the days prior to the event to test the notification system for public health officials. Additionally, there will be a hazardous materials event on Friday, Sept. 29, to train members of the local HAZMAT team.

curry county preparing for possible avian flu outbreak

"We will have 48 hours to vaccinate everyone in the county," she said. "We are good at doing flu shots. We're real good at flu shots...

"And we are getting more and more funding to respond to an emergency,"... "We know we're going to have a pandemic, but we don't know when."
