Church of England Waters Down Baptism?*
from telegraph.co.uk: The devil has been dropped from a new Baptism service of the Church of England. The old Book of Common Prayer version asks the godparent: “Dost thou, in the name of this Child, renounce the devil and all his works, the vain pomp and glory of the world, with all covetous desires of the same, and the carnal desires of the flesh.” The service book called Common Worship, which was introduced in 2000, asks: “Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God? Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil?” The new alternative, for “experimental” use, is meant to be in more “accessible” language. It asks: “Do you reject evil? And all its many forms? And all its empty promises?
